Beaconsfield, London Peace in Rest was part of Disorders, an event taking place at St Thomas's Hospital, produced by Beaconsfield and curated by Nosepaint. It was a collaboration between artists, staff and patients of St Thomas's Hospital who intervened, recorded and commented upon their ongoing battle with mortality over a cycle of 24 hours. The project took place to celebrate the launch of the Guys & St Thomas's Sleep Centre, the first unit for research, diagnosis and treatment of the full range of sleep disorders. I made a hand-print using a chemically reactive paper every minute for 24 hours around the pond in the hospital grounds which followed the hands of Big Ben across the river. During the final hours I projected sleeping faces appearing like death masks onto the Houses of Parliament opposite and a revolving globe of the world onto Big Ben. |
