Assume the Position (1991)
ICA, London

Nancy Reilly of The Wooster Group, New York, invited several British artists to collaborate on a performance.

I made several pieces including sitting with a video of myself singing the song “they said they’d put me in the movies, they said they’d make a big star out of me, the biggest star whoever hit the big time and all I’ve got to do is act naturally”  whilst shattering a sheet of glass with my tiara.

“In what was the climax of the first half of the performance, Bean tied her hair to luminous braids that stretched from the walls and made a skirt from the tablecloth which twisted around her legs as she slowly turned creating a powerful and compelling image. . . . whilst uttering Lady Macbeth’s speech ‘come, you spirits’.”
