Vilaritg, Catalunya September 2008 Exploring the studio/gallery of the artist Be van der Heide in Vilaritg, Catalunya I was aware of many ‘hidden’ spaces as well as ancestral photographs and paintings of women related to both the former and current occupants. The old machinery such as a device for milking gave a very Duchampian feel to allegories of women’s bodily functions. Making sculptural installations in several of the spaces of flowered dresses with their flowers cut out and lying beneath on the floor, I used the photographs, paintings and machinery as part of the sense of ‘emptiness’ of these dress forms and yet the richness of their ‘spillage’. |
