Throughout the year, Anne installed several works for Reap including Twelve Hundred Fathoms and Ashes, Remember Me, 365 Dresses, Today's the Day, Yearnings, Sand Shifting and Visitations. When I first saw the "secret garden" on the edge of Southwark Park, abandoned for several years but with visceral traces of the intense history of the last occupant, around whom fact and fiction were impossible to extract, I immediately thought of my reactions to particular second-hand dresses. Both ‘sites’ contain real clues as well as rich imaginative conjurings of past lives. I decided to hang 365 flowery dresses in the garden throughout the year. Back to Reap |
